John Edwards, Assistant Director – Security, IATA, Switzerland

Speaker Biography: John has over 30 years' experience in commercial aviation, having held management positions in a range of areas including: airline customer services, operations, station management, safety, investigations and security. He spent the majority of his career at British Airways, and has worked for IATA for nearly eight years. His most recent experience includes cargo security, secure freight, SmartS (previously Checkpoint of the Future), capacity building and cyber security.
 
Wayne Smith, Head of Information Services, Birmingham Airport Limited, UK

Speaker Biography: Wayne has been Head of Information Services at Birmingham Airport since 2009, following his preceding 21 years working in the airport industry. He has gained a reputation for his willingness to adopt a professional and innovative approach. He has rebranded the internal IS department at Birmingham Airport and launched a new service-based offering with a focus on customer service. Wayne has recently overseen a complete refresh of the operational systems at Birmingham Airport, which has transformed the business by allowing it to gain from the efficiencies that technology offers. He has a Master’s degree in Airport Management and is a Chartered IT Professional of the British Computer Society. He sees technology as the major factor in influencing operational efficiencies in airports and civil aviation.
