Speaker Biograghy: María is a specialist with over nine years’ experience as an Environmental Consultant. She has worked on and managed a variety of environmental projects involving contaminated land site investigation, human health risk assessments, contaminated land and groundwater remediation, but above all, strategic environmental assessment (SEA) projects in airports. She is leading the strategic environmental assessment of international projects, managing diverse policies and singularities of different countries such as Costa Rica and Kuwait, where the implementation of SEA in airport master plans has been a success.

Synopsis: The presenters are pioneers in the implementation of strategic environmental assessments comprising noise footprint simulations, carbon footprint, energy efficiency studies, etc, creating green airports. The presentation compiles our experience at international airports such as Kuwait, Cartagena de Indias (Colombia) and Costa Rica. It focuses on the process for assessing the environmental consequences of alternative future developments. Our goal: to ensure coherent airport development, effective integration with the environment, and proper coordination between the different administrations. We will also point out how useful SEA is in the decision-making process when airport developments are involved in the land use plans.
