Colin Spear, Assistant Director Airport Development (AFI, EUR & ME), IATA, Switzerland

Speaker Biograghy: Colin works within the Airport, Passenger & Cargo Services Division of IATA, and is based in the Geneva HQ. He manages IATA’s airport constructive engagement programme on behalf of its Member Airlines within Europe, the Middle East and Africa. His primary roles include monitoring airport development programmes, provision of strategic planning advice, and ensuring prioritised, cost-effective capacity enhancement programmes are in place to support demand. In this regard he has worked at the major hubs including Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London Heathrow, Paris CDG and Rome; second-tier airports such as Brussels, Copenhagen, Dublin, Geneva, Helsinki, London Gatwick, Oslo, Stansted, Stockholm and Vienna; as well as emerging Eastern European airports including Bucharest, Budapest, Moscow, Prague, St. Petersburg and Warsaw. Colin has also reviewed new airport development projects, including the opening of Athens in 2001, Durban, South Africa in 2010, Berlin, Lisbon and the third in Istanbul. He has also worked on a consultancy basis in Africa, the Middle East and the Caribbean, undertaking peer reviews of consultants' airport master plans and conceptual passenger terminal design solutions covering projects in Jamaica, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Sudan. He is an airport consultant/planner with an architectural design background and extensive experience in airports, passenger terminals and their associated landside/airside infrastructure support systems. Past involvement in site supervision, construction management and design has led to a broad understanding of consultancy services, project and cost management and resource planning. Prior to joining IATA in 1997, Colin worked for eight years with British Aerospace Consultancy Services on a broad portfolio of airport-related projects throughout the world.
