Speaker Biograghy: Tony is a global expert in border security. He retired as Director General of the UK Border Force in 2013 after an illustrious career spanning 40 years. He was Head of Ports and Borders in Canada 2000-2003 (spanning the 9/11 period), Head of Ports in the UK 2005-2007 (spanning the 7/7 period) and UKBA Gold Commander for the London 2012 Olympics. He was awarded the Order of Commander of the British Empire in the New Year's Honours List 2013 for his contribution to the safety and security of the London 2012 Olympics. Since his retirement Tony has become the International Liaison Director for Borderpol, and he provides strategic advice on Integrated Border Management techniques globally. Tony is a regular commentator on UK national news on border security and border-related topics, and is a recognised expert in his field.

Synopsis: As global passenger traffic continues to increase, it is increasingly important that border agencies work closely with airlines, airports and technology suppliers to enhance the passenger experience without compromising security. Tony Smith will talk about lessons learned from big events of the past; the latest international thinking on border strategies; and how the public sector and the private sector can work together to deliver integrated border management systems in the future. The session will also look at identity management at borders, registered traveller programmes and automated border controls.
