Speaker Biograghy: Mehrdad Parsad is an accomplished Architect with proven ability to creatively lead projects from start to completion. In his 15 year experience as a registered architect, Mehrdad has practiced architecture in UK and Canada, and has been responsible for significant body of work in at least 3 continents. His portfolio is recognized by the Royal Institute of British Architects and the Architectural Institute of British Columbia, where he participates in final examination of Intern Architects. A LEED Certified Professional, Mehrdad has a wide range of experience including Master Planning, Retail and Urban Regeneration and Residential projects, but he has primarily gravitated towards Airport Terminal Design. He enjoys the collaborative nature of this work with informed clients, which results in a truly unforgettable experience for millions of passengers each year. In his spare time, he is a keen photographer, and learning to fly a plane is still on his bucket list!

11:55 - 12:20 - Expansion and upgrades to the domestic terminal at YVR
Synopsis: Vancouver International Airport's (YVR) new Gateway Initiative will maximise aircraft gate utilisation and reduce connection times between domestic and international flights. The first phase, an expansion and upgrade in the domestic terminal, opens December 2014. This presentation will provide two perspectives: Nancy Stern will discuss YVR’s planning, design criteria, art commissioning and how the project fits with the YVR Gateway Initiative; Mehrdad Parsad will discuss the architectural inspirations and how YVR’s criteria have been implemented. The project includes a new concession programme, new access to bag claim, an art commission, expanded holdroom capacity and YVR’s standard passenger amenities.
