Carolina Ramirez-Taborda, Global Director, Aviation Security and Facilitation, IATA, Switzerland

Speaker Biograghy: Carolina’s career in aviation started in 2004 when she joined IATA in Montreal, working for business intelligence, passenger publications to cargo, ground ops and security events. From 2010 she ran the IATA Secure Freight programme, which successfully delivered pilot projects in 15 countries including Malaysia, Kenya, Mexico, Chile, Jordan, Bahrain, Brazil, Turkey and the Philippines. The outreach of this capacity-building program prompted her promotion to Global Director, Aviation Security and Facilitation in June 2014, with responsibility, oversight and advocacy for all aviation security and facilitation matters on behalf of IATA member airlines. In this role Carolina is currently addressing the priorities drawn by the ICAO Task Force on Risks to Civil Aviation arising from Conflict Zones (TF RCZ), supporting member airlines developing cyber security programmes, and gaining consensus on a long-term framework for efficient, risk-based, passenger data processes.

Day 2 - 11 March
Session:
IATA Day

13:40 - 14:25 - Cyber security – no time to lose!
Synopsis: IATA’s mission is to assist airlines in developing a cyber security strategy and drive coordination of global efforts in addressing cyber threats to civil aviation. We do this on three fronts: risk management and mitigation, advocacy, and reporting and communication. Industry needs to engage with regulators to prevent wasteful regulation in an area in which no one has a full understanding of the potential impact to our industry. Achieving a common understanding of risks will allow us to better work together on their mitigation with outcome-focused, non-prescriptive regulations – but the clock is ticking.
