Management & Operations

11:35 - 12:00 - Time-Based Separation – a solution for arrival delays
Synopsis: Lockheed Martin and NATS have pioneered Time-Based Separation (TBS), which is a new approach to arrival sequencing that calculates aircraft separation by time instead of the traditional distance approach. By combining Laser Wind Detector technology, arrival management tools, approach control ATC and the core TBS automation, delays can be reduced by up to 40%. As well as offering significant reductions in delays and more efficient use of runway capacity, TBS is in the process of being mandated within some EU airports by SESAR as part of the European Air Traffic Management Master Plan.
