Day 3 - 17 March
Session:
Airport Design, Planning & Development

09:55 - 10:20 - High-tech/high-touch: technology and authentic experience at SFO's Terminal 1
Synopsis: Technology supports the traveller through information exchange, but also disconnects from direct experience. The Millennial Generation in particular insists on the personal delivery of information via smart devices, while also seeking connectivity and experiential spaces. The presentation shows SFO's Terminal 1 redevelopment programme and how it is reconciling this dichotomy. The 850,000ft2 programme will include the latest informational and wayfinding technology, while incorporating elements that reconnect the traveller with an authentic experience reflective of the culture and attributes of the Bay Area. By relating high-tech and high-touch, the terminal exhibits a unique sensitivity to modern travel needs.
