Session:
Airport Design, Planning & Development

15:10 - 15:40 - Airport facility renewal vs. replacement
Synopsis: Many airports are trying to address their ageing infrastructure needs. When an airport terminal facility reaches its end of useful life, owners/operators have to make a decision to either re-life the ageing facility or demolish and start afresh by building a new facility. The Airport Cooperative Research Program, Report 68: Guidebook for Evaluating Terminal Renewal versus Replacement was developed to provide guidance to airport professionals and policymakers in this important decision-making process. This presentation will address a complex process of conducting a systematic evaluation of options for renewal or rebuilding the airport facility, and review case studies of successful airport development programmes.
