Day 2 - 16 March
Session:
Airport Cities & Transport Connections
10:05 - 10:35
- Improving intermodal connectivity and access to airports in North America
Synopsis: Getting to and from the airport has been a challenge for cities and towns in North America. Good transportation access to an airport can play a vital role in a city or region’s economic competitiveness in the global marketplace. Well-known research is available on transport modes and corridor planning available to access airports. Lesser-known research on multi-modal information systems is being developed as another form of transportation access. These systems can play a significant role in understanding the airport’s site location, the transportation mode being used and the value and convenience of customer access to airports and surrounding destinations.
Audience will learn:
- Intermodal and multi-modal connectivity will play a key role in passenger travel in the next 20 years
- North American cities are slow in adopting new tools for airport access
- Direct access to airports using multi-modal information systems can reduce wait time and thereby increase customer revenue generation at airports
