Speaker Biograghy: Elizabeth has over 35 years’ experience in the environmental and aviation fields. As the Director of Aviation Planning and Environmental Programs at the Port of Seattle, she is responsible for managing the groups that deliver comprehensive planning and environmental services for Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. She was also successful in obtaining the 401/404 permits for the controversial third runway project at SeaTac. Before joining the Port, she was a regulator and consultant, as well as California Institute of Technology’s Leader of Environmental Management at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Elizabeth is currently a member and past Chair of Airports Council International - North America’s Environmental Steering Committee and the past Chair of the ACI-World Environment Standing Committee; she participates in ICAO/CAEP working groups. Personal fact: She loves to travel and anything involving water, and was once a class 5 whitewater raft guide.

Synopsis: Seattle Airport is at a crossroads, facing extraordinary growth and the need to create a development vision based on sustainability principles reflecting its corporate culture. This presentation will focus on an innovative approach to integrating sustainability into an airport masterplanning process – the first of its kind in the United States. The approach to integrating sustainability is divided into three steps: 1) What and where the airport builds on limited land area; 2) How the airport builds a recommended alternative for development; 3) How the airport operates and manages a sustainability management plan.
