Speaker Biograghy: As Director of Developments at Portland, Alan is responsible for leading the company’s commercial masterplanning team on retail and leisure schemes, mixed-use developments and transportation projects. Alan is passionate about creating schemes that are totally people focused, that connect public spaces with the commercial offer in order to promote a 'spirit of place', and that are memorable, engaging and endorse a future vision. Alan’s airport experience includes commercial planning, environmental branding and future-proofing strategies at Schiphol, Brussels, Hamburg, Munich, Köln/Bonn, Düsseldorf, Athens, Rome Fiumicino, Turin, Bologna, Florence, Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger, Keflavik, Copenhagen and Heathrow. Projects further afield include Hyderabad, Bangalore, Johannesburg, Dubai and Lima airports. Personal fact: Alan loves his family, likes independent music, travel and attending industry conferences, where he is a regular speaker.

11:25 - 11:55 - How can airports become compelling lifestyle destinations?
Synopsis: The presentation will explore how consumers’ relationships with brands and their shopping behaviour are shifting, and how that is driving new consumer experiences. Airports need to get ‘future ready’ to respond to a rapidly changing consumer landscape. Our presentation will describe the four pillars of success that the future winners in retail need to adopt, and how this will shape the new notion of the shop. The presentation will be peppered with best practice examples across a wide range of retail and leisure categories.
