Ian Taylor, Director, Global Aviation Leader, Arup, Hong Kong

Speaker Biograghy: Ian Taylor is the global aviation business leader at Arup. Ian joined Arup in 1993 and has worked in the UK, Ireland, USA and Asia. Since 2009, he has served as Aviation Business Leader in East Asia, playing a leading role in expanding the Firm’s presence in China. Previously, he led the Aviation team in the UK, Middle East and Africa. A Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Ian has worked on award-winning projects including Hong Kong International Airport, Terminal 2 Dublin Airport, San Francisco’s Transbay Terminal, New York’s 2nd Avenue Subway, Singapore Changi Airport Station and JFK International Airport. Ian leads a team working with airports around the world to develop long-term strategies to help them prepare for the future. He guides the development of multidisciplinary teams – from strategic airport planning to programme delivery and operations consultancy – helping clients achieve their commercial and operational objectives.

14:35 - 15:10 - Sustainable development of the Midfield Concourse at Hong Kong International Airport
Synopsis: The recently completed Midfield Concourse (MFC) at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) is an exemplar of sustainable concourse design, exhibiting HKIA’s commitment to becoming a world-leading green airport. The 105,000m2, five-level concourse incorporates 20 new parking stands and will increase passenger handling capacity by at least 10 million passengers per year. This talk will describe how the early integration of sustainable design principles from project outset, including passive design strategies and low-energy active design techniques, was employed to deliver a sustainable, high-performance concourse with a comfortable passenger experience.
