RULES Green Engine of the Year: To qualify for inclusion in this category (new to the Awards for 2008), an engine must have been housed in a passenger car that was on sale in more than one country as of 7 May 2008, have been designed with fuel economy as a priority, and employ intelligent technologies to reduce emissions (such as diesels with a DPF, hybrids, etc). Best Performance Engine: To qualify for inclusion in this category, an engine must have been housed in a passenger car that was on sale in more than one country as of 7 May 2008, and have been designed specifically for a performance-orientated car, or be installed in a vehicle designed for sporting fun. Best New Engine 2008: To qualify for inclusion in this category, an engine must have been launched after 9 May 2007 and be housed in a passenger car that was on sale in more than one country as of 7 May 2008. International Engine of the Year 2008: The winners of the eight capacity classes are shortlisted for the International Engine of the Year crown.
