RULES Green Engine of the Year: To qualify for inclusion in this Award Category, an engine must have been housed in a passenger car that was on sale in more than one country as of 17 June 2009, and have been designed with fuel economy as a priority and employs intelligent technologies to reduce emissions. Best Performance Engine: To qualify for inclusion in this Award Category, an engine must have been housed in a passenger car that was on sale in more than one country as of 17 June 2009, and either have been designed specifically for a performance-orientated car or be installed in a vehicle, the aim of which is sporting fun. Best New Engine 2009: To qualify for inclusion in this Awards category, an engine must have been launched after 7 May 2008 and have been housed in a passenger car that is on sale in more than one country as of 17 June 2009. International Engine of the Year 2009: The winners of the eight engine capacity classes are shortlisted for the International Engine of the Year 2009 crown.
